Working in co-production with wider stakeholders, I have been involved in the creation of a basic eLearning module on Autism to give health and social care staff a better understanding of how to support those who have autism.I have also co-created, with stakeholders, a 1 day course on autism. This is being delivered by myself and a training provider to social care staff. It is also being delivered to a wide range of stakeholders including prisons, the police and local organisations to raise awareness around autism and support those who may have social communication difficulties.I am also trained to coaches level in Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and spearheading a project to increase the use of PBS across Norfolk. Special Education Needs Advisor

Apr 2018 - Dec 2018
Working on stand-alone projects, I audited Education, Health and Care plans to assess progress of individuals and review where changes had not been successful. This was particularly focused on high-cost provision to ensure young people were receiving the support they were entitled to and that it was suitable. Alongside this, I created a transition support plan as a proactive measure in reducing the need for additional funding when moving between settings. This is now used across Portsmouth Local Authority. Show less

As the SENCo for the school, I monitored teachers planning around differentiation and whole class teaching of children with SEND. I worked as the main point of contact for outside agencies and applied through the council for additional funding and provisions with Education, Health and Care Applications. Alongside this I had the responsibility of Designated Safeguarding Officer, dealing with Safeguarding concerns and social services. I was also the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children, managing Personal Education Plans and their individual provision. I also line managed 26 Teaching Assistants, an apprenticeship scheme for recruitment and interviewing and appointing, inducting and managing new Teaching Assistants for the school. Show less

Working as a class teacher at Cliffdale gave me a wealth of training and experience with a wide range of different needs. Initially working with children who had mild learning difficulties, I moved to a class containing children with profound a multiple learning difficulties, severe autism and mild learning difficulties. Within my last class, I taught children with severe autism who were mostly non-verbal and through observations I was considered an outstanding teacher by the executive headteacher and head of learning. I moved on from Cliffdale only to gain managerial experience as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, though my passion for working directly with children who present with special educational needs is still what drives me to implement whole school and city improvement through my current positions.
