As part of my FETAC/QQI Level 5 Award in Nursing Studies, I was required to complete 150 hours of Work Placement in a healthcare setting. I was successful in my application to Ennis General Hospital and commenced my placement on January 26th 2015. It was here that I furthered my skillset and experienced first-hand the role of a nurse. I put my manual handling skills into practice by moving and manoeuvring patients, I learned how to make a bed efficiently, how to wash a patient and change their pad and how to feed a patient. During my work placement I improved my communication and inter-personal skills by interacting with clients and enquiring about their welfare. I gained valuable experience and I have become more confident in my ability and I believe that the nursing profession is suitable for me.
