The aim of the current study was to identify and evaluate potential factors influencing both the stress response, maternal behaviour and reproductive outcome in mink dams. The results indicate that non-maternal and maternal nest building is important for mink dams’ stress response and reproductive outcome, including offspring survival. Further, mink dams’ nest site choice and nest building were found temperature dependent. Additional, the altricial mink offspring responded unfavourable to unheated nests by increased huddling, distress vocalisation and reduced growth. Show less
