Senior Software Engineer/Data Engineer at a Geo-Behavioural/Alternative Data company based in London - focused on generating rich location based consumer behaviour datasets collected via a mobile SDK installed on over 45 million devices world wide. Notable work included: ・Rebuilding a monolithic ETL pipeline as a serverless architecture using AWS Lambda. ・Building various machine learning models with Sklearn and Keras for consumer behavior analytics. ・Designing and implementing an architecture to process upwards of 100 million datapoints a day. ・Utilizing Ansible and Docker to both automatically provision infrastructure and deploy code. ・Developing both customer facing dashboards and data processing pipelines using Python. ・Using techniques such as Clustering and Association Rule Mining to gain insight from the data. ・Designing, creating and maintaining an analytics database containing over 10 billion rows. ・Writing Logstash preprocessing scripts in Ruby before loading into Elasticsearch. ・Implementing a Genetic Algorithm to optimize the quality of the data submitted by a mobile SDK.

Graduate Software Engineering role at Lockheed Martin in the UK, working on an Internal Research and Development Project in an agile dev team. projects included a piece of software that allowed Airport staff to better manage an airport based on real time data, real time incident detection tools as well as MOD projects. Work consisted of: •Constructing a modular micro-service oriented architecture by writing RESTful APIs •Utilizing 'DevOps' Technologoes such as docker, ansible and vagrant •Writing a responsive web UI using AngularJS and Angular Material •Designing classifiers (Naive Bayes/Random Forest) to offer meaningful predictions •Using Apache Storm and Apache Spark to build powerful analytics pipelines. •Migrating established systems onto more modern infrastructures. •Upgrading and maintaining the projects data center. •Integrating 3rd party data sources using Mule ESB •Applying machine learning algorithms to solve problems in security and transport •Collaborating with a team in USA on an 'International R&D' project Additionally I worked as Web Developer at a customer site, developing an Emerging product that visualises and monitors the state of the global airspace. Working in a small agile team under NATS management. Work included: •Developing a responsive UI using AngularJS and Material Design. •Writing Unit Tests to ensure client and server code acts as expected. •Building functionality and optimizing performance in an established (MEAN stack) codebase. •Working with customers to improve the UX.

Research Intern (Erasmus+)
-
Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
3 Month Erasmus+ placement at the University Of Salerno in Italy. The work I was involved in was focused on the application of computational intelligence techniques to bioinformatics data. Specifically, gene expression data, protein expression data and miRNA data were investigated. Tasks involved dimensionality reduction on this data, classification and clustering of the data, and searching for breast cancer bio-markers. A large portion of the work was focused on the visualization and analysis of high dimensional data. Utilized dimensionality reduction algorithms such as PCA and MDS, along with clustering algorithms including K-Means, DBSCAN, Hierarchical clustering, and Kohonen Maps on bioinformatics datasets. R was the primary programming language used.

15 month industrial placement, working as a Product Engineer Product Engineering: Working in a team of engineers on several different projects, including multiple investigations on defective hardware, writing (bash) scripts to reproduce issues seen in the field, and several engineering trials, where a new product, or process is tested extensively before a manufacturing process is implemented. During my work with storage systems I have encountered technologies including: •SCSI •SAS - SMP, STP & SSP •SATA •EBOD/JBOD drive arrays •Solid State Drives & their internal architecture Software Engineering: I have taken part in projects mainly centered around systematically pulling data from unstructured logs, and outputting them in a more manageable format (csv), using technologies including: Python, Bash, Awk and Sed. Other software projects include visualizing this data in a browser, using HTML5, CSS, SVG and JavaScript, and building a database CMS in ASP.NET/C#
