Owner/Director of Operations
-
nov. 2009 - apr. 2014
Over the course of 4.5 years, my partners and I built, managed and eventually sold a successful medical cannabis manufacturing/retail operation. At the time of my departure, this included three retail stores and two production facilities. My primary roles included managing retail staff and store performance/revenue. I closely monitored production (yields and quality), and was the primary liaison between the grow team and front-line retail. I made sure stores were always adequately stocked with quality product, and that this was always done in full compliance with the state's regulations. I kept an eye on the industry's retail and wholesale markets, and I made pricing changes accordingly.I had a constant hand in navigating the industry's ever-changing regulatory system. I also worked very closely with our CFO in managing parts of the company's budget. Primarily those relating to general operations, advertising and marketing.I took great pride in keeping a pulse on all facets of our company, as I feel this is important for an owner. Most importantly I learned a lot of valuable lessons on what it takes to build and run a successful business. I learned what it's like to work 7 days a week for very little to no pay. I learned what it's like to be scared but still excited about what the next day may bring. Maybe most importantly, I learned to take advice from the smart people around me. And not just the ones that worked WITH me, but FOR me as well.In my time with Greenwerkz, I developed a lot of strong relationships with many industry professionals. That, along with my industry knowledge, make me a valuable asset to anyone looking to enter the industry, or to existing operations that may just need an outside look at things.

Sales Manager

jun. 2006 - nov. 2009
For 3.5 years I worked as a fertilizer trader/sales manager for a division of ConAgra Food's trade group, Gavilon Fertilizer. I was in charge of a large book of business, which included over 100 ag retailers in parts of Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. I left this job to pursue my dream of self-employment back in Colorado. This is pretty self-explanatory, but I performed the job in two different capacities. I spent time directly cold-calling potential sub-prime borrowers, but also worked with Countrywide's "A paper" loan officers on deals they couldn't do.Here, I learned a lot about lending, but also credit and general finance. I also learned it's a bad idea to buy a house before you're ready. As a side note....sorry for ruining the economy. I didn't write the rules...just followed them.
