Provide strategic technical leadership in the design, planning, and implementation of all aspects of the core IT infrastructure throughout the EarthLink company. Server platforms include Intel based Microsoft Windows and Linux based systems (Dell and Cisco UCS) as well as SPARC based Oracle server infrastructure. Lead and participate in infrastructure strategy discussions and provide infrastructure design solutions/options, both for ongoing operations/optimization/consolidation and for project-specific system initiatives. Other duties include:• Design and provide Best Practices recommendations from a technical and operational level • Perform system and infrastructure analysis and assist with capacity planning for the enterprise and IT Services environments.• Draft and maintain design documentation for all equipment, processes, and procedures for the enterprise infrastructure. • Responsible for providing the specifications required for the procurement of storage hardware and software.• Enable full leverage of new technology, improving performance and ROI through better use and processes• Help drive and architect corporate wide consolidation solutions.• Help drive and architect the consolidation of numerous data centers taking into account all of the infrastructure corporate wide• Provide rack elevations (using Visio) for power, rack-wiring layouts for any changes implemented during consolidation and IT Services projects.• Work directly with Network Engineering to take into account Datacenter changes that are related to IT infrastructure from a networking perspective.• Drive design and architecture for the IT Services portion of the business, accounting for redundancy, performance and customer satisfaction.• Interfaces with the local system administrators when applicable to set up and maintain new systems.• Participate in system, application, acquisition or divestiture projects as needed.
