AXIS Capital: (3 month temporary role) Claims/Complaints coordinator – providing support for transferring files to Lloyd’s within the claims/complaints team and adhering to daily deadlines. Ensuring client information is relevant and up-to-date. Recording all client issues and being responsible for the complaints log and creating a root case analysis log. BMS Group: I spent time in 5 different divisions (which included shadowing brokers at Lloyd’s and being introduced to various underwriters across a range of classes): Cyber & Technology - using Microsoft Excel to present key definitions within the ‘cyber bible’ and supporting/adding to an upcoming powerpoint presentation meeting. Risk Solutions (Property) - completing a spreadsheet with signed slip data. Claims & Accounts - learning about the accounting processes and monitoring programmes and also how binding authorities are operated, including claims management. Global Reinsurance - learning about Marine reinsurance, particularly Cargo. Property & Casualty Reinsurance - understanding the effects on North American property (and in particular coastland property/buildings) from natural disasters e.g. Hurricane Irma, and how this impacts the market. MS Amlin - I spent a day with an assistant underwriter at Lloyd’s learning about North American Property Treaty Reinsurance. Eggar Forrester Insurance: Household Insurance Brokers - Learning how to analyse completed proposal forms prior to submission to underwriters. Castel Underwriting Agencies Ltd: Learning about bloodstock insurance, principally by participating in meetings in the market between underwriters and brokers. Markel International: Introduction to the insurance industry.
