We envision an ensemble of dancers whose embodied power and beauty create seismic shifts in the ground on which they dance.Shyamali: Sprouting Words:Audré Lorde cautioned: “Your silence will not protect you.” Our 2017 theme, "Shyamali," explores how proactive dissent fuels life force and growth, recognizes the courage of women who speak up and talk back to sustain communities against injustice, and celebrates women who refuse to be broken despite adversity and attack. The word "shyamali" means dark green in Bengali, and is inspired by the resilience of grass/moss/ground cover plants that spring up when trod upon.
