The research activity was oriented towards the development of functional polymer nanocomposites with pressure sensing capabilities, which could be employed for bioinspired soft robotics applications. Piezoresistive polymer nanocomposites were used as “smart” structural materials for the fabrication of a soft robot that, inspired by climbing plants behaviour and growing capabilities, was able to self-creates its body through a layer-by-layer deposition of the developed materials, by exploiting a 3D printing technology called Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM).
