The role of a PCV is to promote cultural exchange between the United States and the Dominican Republic and facilitate capacity building of host country nationals. Sample of Projects: • Organized and facilitated teacher-training workshops and conferences that 8 local teachers participated in. • Developed youth groups to teach leadership, self-esteem, HIV/AIDS prevention to more that 20 youth. • Successfully wrote a grant for funding to implement a community-lead water project to provide running water to 60 houses and more than 300 people. • Translated for Medical Missions and coordinator to bring free medical and dental care to more than 500+ Dominicans and Haitians. • Helped organize inter-community baseball league and supported teams with equipment donations. • Constructed 40+ latrines with local org that supported annual student service trips from University of Rochester.
