I worked in Dr. Anindya Ghosh-Roy's lab, a Neuro-Genetics lab that uses worms a.k.a C.elegans as a model system.I have worked in two of his major research projects: •Neurodevelopment: I used touch neurons of the animal to elucidate the roles of microtubule regulatory molecules in how they help a neuron develop- did Genetic Screenings and used Crispr-Cas9 technology to analyze the same.•Neuroregeneration: I expressed optogenetic tools to understand the fate of touch neurons in worms after the axons of the touch neurons were damaged by laser. I have used multiple molecular cloning techniques, microinjection system and confocal imaging for this study. When I wasn't busy husbanding worms under the microscope, I have taken part at the annual Tantrika Fests from 2016-2018, organised in the campus ground. I also developed my interest in reading different peer-reviewed studies during this time, often giving talks about them in the regular lab journal clubs and the institute's journal club.

The title of my project: Develop a toolbox of reporters to assay neural circuit regeneration in C.elegansAim: Expression of optogenetic tools like GCaMP, etc. specifically in a worm's touch neurons to track it's regenerated neuronal activities after they were laser axotomized. •Used many new molecular cloning techniques and learnt Fluorescence microscopy along with behavioral studies to analyze the results. Short term projects for the first three semesters of MSc programme at Gene Therapy lab under Dr. Everette Nelson's lab. Aim: Expression of transgenic constructs to understand efficacy of specific promoters against post-transcriptional gene silencing in a Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency- 1 disease model.#Learnt basic molecular cloning techniques#Cloned various transgenic constructs into the 3rd generation SIN Lentiviral vectors. Short research project titled: Detection of disachharidases inhibitor in Bitter Gourd as a way to prevent Diabetes.Aim: Investigate the key molecule present in bitter gourd (karela) that reduces blood sugar levels in humans. This project involved:- Extracting maltase enzyme from yeast by ultrasonification, - Enzymatic assays like pH standardization and volume standardization of the enzyme maltase, and,- Bitter gourd assay to quantify the decrease in the amount of glucose when bitter gourd was added to a medium of high glucose.

A week long visit to the blood bank helped me learnt some Blood Bank activities. I was involved in blood cultures and serum related immunological testing like checking blood group and detecting blood related diseases.
