Department of Cell and Metabolic Biology; Synthetic Biology Group New tools for Gene Replacement and Regeneration in Plants Group of Dr. Sylvestre Marillonnet. Position fully funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF), Germany. • Research focus: Developing widely applicable methods for efficient gene targeting and replacement. One of the limitations of precise gene-targeting approach is the need of high number of repair templates to be delivered to the targeted site in the genome. In order to increase the gene-targeting frequency, several approaches have been adopted until now with limited success. Therefore, one of the objectives of this project is to use two different ways of repair template delivery for increased gene-targeting efficiency. One approach would be to use geminiviral replicons. Geminiviruses are small single stranded DNA viruses which infect various plant species. Their replication is extrachromosomal, meaning their DNA would not be integrated into the plant host genome which is one of the benefits of this approach. Another approach would be to deliver Transcription Activator-like Effector Nucleases (TALEN) to plant cells as proteins. • Poster presentation `New tools for gene replacement and regeneration in plants`, PLANT 2030 Status Seminar 2019 Potsdam, Germany, 13-15/03/2019 • Short oral presentation and poster presentation at EMBO Workshop `Creating is Understanding: Synthetic Biology Masters Complexity`, Heidelberg, Germany, 22-25/09/2019 Show less
