I am Housemaster in a boy’s house from 2019 until present. My role includes helping young people through their first boarding experiences and in living their daily life away from home. The job involves, Planning extra-curricular outings and events, house team building, and organisation of competitions for students. It also involves running the boarding house with aspects such as routines and pastoral support/care for all our students from 22 different nationalities and backgrounds. This role can vary from helping organise rugby club sessions outside of school to simple homely chats when students are finding life hard. It can involve having to deal with issues that may arise from and for both staff and students and being a proactive problem solver to being organised in advance and supporting all personal in their goals and aim. It also involves communication with parents and guardians and ensuring that I work with them to ensure the best outcome for all involved in the process of there education and care.This role also means a large amount of management and communication with the house staff team from tutors to domestic and maintenance staff.

I work with children ranging from 4-18 delivering and designing an Outdoor curriculum that suits all needs, including the increasingly popular Duke of Edinburgh programme (which has grown in participation from 200 students to 250 under my leadership).This involves the liaison between the Duke of Edinburgh office and our head teacher as well as the implementation of the schools in house system to train, deliver and support students through the award.It also entails training our staff in house to understand and deliver the support students in the information they require to complete the award.The organisation of expeditions at all 3 levels of the award and the risk assessments trip paperwork and safety systems in place.

Planning and leading a month-long expedition to Uganda in conjunction with the staff and students going. Whilst on expedition it involved managing teachers and pupils whilst ensuring they also lead the trip and learned. This meant teaching about and then letting students organise budgeting, transportation, and project work. My role was to ensure that the safety network and co-ordinating volunteer work at a local school as well as trekking expedition where all run by students but overseen by myself and where safe and within the operating guidelines and supporting students on a life changing experience whilst providing pastoral care and memory they will not forget.

The role involved bushcraft camps for groups of students varying from 1 day to 10 days in various locations all over the U.K. this involved organising and making sure that instructors on camp knew what was happening and what sessions needed to be delivered that the cooks had everything they needed and that the supply chain that is needed to keep these remote camps running is clearly communicated with.
