      The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center (KBHCC) is one of the largest convention centers in the nation. Every year it welcomes over a million visitors attending major national and international conventions, meetings, concerts, athletic competitions, auto shows, and more. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, the KBHCC has been and continues to be a fixture in the Dallas skyline offering 1 million square feet of exhibit space, three ballrooms, 88 meeting rooms, 1,750-seat theater, and a 9,816-seat arena. Responsible for setting the strategic direction for the safety and security operations for the KBHCC in a manner consistent with best practices for large convention centers in major metropolitan areas. Develops, implements, and manages all aspects of the public safety, security, transportation, sheltering, and emergency preparedness programs. Determines the optimal division of responsibilities between facility, facility-contracted, and event-contracted resources. Works as a member of the Senior Management team to provide services in a manner that ensures a safe experience for all attendees, show managers, exhibitors, stakeholders, employees and the general public while recognizing the changing, complex and unique needs of our customers and events. Develops, manages and maintains all life safety and prevention plans and programs, including venue and event-specific plans in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and city laws. Oversees and is responsible for the management and administration of the facility’s full and part time safety and security employees and contracted security provider(s). Establishes and enforces requirements and standards for all event-contracted security providers. Manages initial facility response to any emergency or incident up to such point as specified in facility emergency operations plans. As required by plan or situation supports emergency first responders from local jurisdictions for large-scale incidents.

      I began my tenure with TEEX (a division of the Texas A&M University System) in 2007 as a an adjunct instructor teaching Incident Command and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). In 2009 I accepted a full-time position as Associate Dean of a new program in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This program was to train 4400 members of a new paramilitary security force to protect the country's infrastructure. I lead a team of Curriculum Deans and Instructors that instituted an innovative training and educational program that would eventually lead the students to an Associate Degree from the United States. This program was a prototype and is expected to set the standard in the Middle East and Far East.

      I have worked as a Military Policeman in the United States Marine Corps since 1981. During that time I served nearly 11 years on active duty and the reminder in the Reserves. Over the course of my career, I have filled nearly every enlisted billet up and including Provost Sergeant. This provided me extensive experience in Military Police operations, EPW control, MSR recon, as well as basic law enforcement functions. I retired in 2006 with the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). During my most recent mobilization, I was the Security Operations & Protective Services Chief for HQ U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, FL. I was hand selected to create, fund, staff and implement a Protective Service Detail for the Commander, USSOCOM. In this position I was responsible for supervising multiple protective services teams on missions throughout the world including high threat locations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia & Djibouti. While at USSOCOM, I had a secondary duty as the Security Operations Superintendent for USSOCOM’s Security Management Office (SMO). I was directly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day security arrangements for the headquarters compound. This required me to manage the enlisted personnel assigned to the industrial security, personnel security, physical security, and technical security sections. The headquarters also had a joint military and civilian guard forces designed to protect SOCOM personnel and assets which fell under my direct, day-to-day supervision and management. On a previous mobilization I served as the Training Chief for the I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton; overseeing the training for 16,000 Marines and sailors as they prepared for deployment to Afghanistan. I have also completed a successful tour of duty as a Marine Security Guard with the U.S. State Department. My tour included postings at the embassies in New Delhi, India and Santiago, Chile.
