In my third year on the professional trail crew my responsibilities grew to leading projects and crews. In this position I was responsible for keeping my crew members informed as to the significance of their roles, managing our work and camp sites to minimize our impact, as well as making sure the work was done safely, quickly, and to the highest degree quality possible. In this position I was responsible for work assigned to me by my crew leader while working in the Adirondack and Catskill Parks. As a professional trial crew member I hiked into the woods for 5 days at a time in crews of 3-7 to build bridges, cut new trail, build rock erosion control devises, and do general trail maintenance. The work not only required a great deal of physical exertion but also the skills to work closely with a group on possibly dangerous projects. This position plays a major role in the overall recreation management of the Adirondack Park and through my time on the crew I grew to see the impact we had on the land around the trails. Through contracts with the NYSDEC and other organizations the professional trails crew helps to manage the impact recreational use has on the Adirondack Park. Show less

      • Jan 2015 - May 2015

Through this opportunity, while working closely with a handful of other volunteers we brought the campus publication to life. Through giving a voice to the students we became an important aspect of Paul Smith's College. We gave life to what has now become a biweekly publication, with sought after work-study positions.
