Experience

    • Transportation Technology and Policy Graduate Student Researcher
      • Sep 2021 - Present

Within the Transportation Technology and Policy (TTP) graduate program at the Institute for Transportation Studies at UC Davis, I have had the opportunity to receive a broad overview of local city transportation planning to state-wide and national planning policies. My work with The China Center of Transportation and Energy has allowed me to focus on my interest in the electrification of China's vehicle fleets and the government policies supporting these developments. My time spent focusing on state-wide policies within the TTP program and my work with local city and county-wide transportation projects for the City of Davis's transportation commission have given me a comprehensive understanding of how policies implemented at the highest levels work their way down to affecting local-level developments. This, coupled with my experience of having lived and worked in China for four years, gives me an understanding of how projects implemented in the United States and China are similar to or differ from each other. The purpose of the EEP program is to mentor and cultivate the energy professionals of the future. Throughout the yearlong program, my cohort and I in the program have been meeting with our assigned energy professional who has been mentoring us on working in the energy field and on finding an appropriate internship or job. Our entire cohort has been attending seminars and lectures focused on the energy field. The purpose of the EEP program is to mentor and cultivate the energy professionals of the future. I was appointed by the city council of the City of Davis to serve on the City’s BTSSC Commission. I met monthly with the Commission to discuss and provide guidance and recommendations to the city council on transportation projects throughout the City of Davis and the surrounding county. Examples of the projects discussed are the installation of electric vehicle charging stations throughout Davis, and adjustments to roadways to allow traffic to move more efficiently and pedestrians to cross safely. I employed my current education on transportation planning and my former training of running for public office to serve as an effective public government official. Show less

Having reported for different sections of the Shanghai Daily newspaper, I had the opportunity to meet with with local people throughout China and to see firsthand the conditions that are influencing and changing the country. These included the effects of the rapid development of transportation infrastructure throughout the country, increased imports of foreign goods for domestic consumption in China, an analysis on the increased prominence of Chinese people participating in athletic events and what this shows about the changing society and many other analyses. I also had the opportunity to photograph the individuals and places that I documented in my published articles. Show less
