Assessor
-
Jul 2001 - Oct 2014
CALEA assessor responsibilities included close interaction with client agencies to ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards. Accreditation standards are recognized as best practices in the delivery of quality law enforcement services. Compliance was verified by reviewing directives; assessor observations; agency reports; news media stories;and interviews of employees, community members, bargaining unit officials, other government officials, and residents in the community. As a lead assessor I was responsible for coordinating assessment activities with the client agency before and during the on-site. Coordination tasks included close interaction with the CALEA assessment manager, agency accreditation manager, command officers, and the chief executive officer. As the title implies, a team leader also coordinates and guides the work of the other member(s) of the assessment team. At the conclusion of on-site assessment activities, team leaders must compose a comprehensive written report to document agency background information, agency and community demographics, standards compliance issues, and agency strengths, challenges, opportunities, and threats. The on-site assessment report is used by the Commission to determine the future accreditation status of the agency.
