APEM is Europe’s leading independent environmental consultancy specialising in aquatic ecology and aerial surveys, including intertidal core sampling, quadrats and biotope mapping, subtidal grabs, dredges, trawls and remote imaging, Annex I and II habitat surveys, APEM’s laboratories specialize in marine and freshwater biota (invertebrates, fish, shellfish, seabirds, marine mammals, seagrass and algae; identification, taxonomy and ecology, including recognition of rare, protected and non-native species), sample processing (benthic infauna and epifauna, zooplankton, phytoplankton, including ballast water plankton, underwater video and still photograph analysis and biotope assignment). APEM is the leading quality assurance laboratory in the country and runs both the marine and freshwater invertebrate QA schemes for the Environment Agency, through the National Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) external quality assurance scheme. The Scheme provides an assessment of biological data contributing to UK and European monitoring programmes through training exercises and assessment modules. APEM was awarded the contract to run the benthic invertebrate and particle size (PSA) components from April 2014 to March 2018. APEM provides consultancy and report writing services for all sectors connected with the marine environment (conservation, MCZs, MPAs, coastal development, ports, oil, gas, aggregate extraction, renewable energy, dredge disposal, water abstraction, fisheries, aquaculture). Tim provides quality assurance of marine invertebrate identification within APEM's laboratories and externally, through the NMBAQC Scheme, including organization of taxonomic workshops and ring test exercises and management of literature and reference collections. He also carries out field surveys (in situ records and sampling in all marine environments) and assists with tender preparation, consultancy and report writing. Show less
