After a very enjoyable period my contract with ARC came to a close in December. Having joined ARC in Sept 2013 (for an initial 4 month period) to undertake a review of their business/strategy my contract was then extended for a further 12 months in order to help implement a number of the key recommendations. Subsequently a lot of really exciting ARC stuff happened during 2014 with several “new” occurrences along the way such as Owner, Branding, a London Office & UK FCA licence application submitted, Personnel and updated ARC Group & Suggestus websites to name but a few. It was also great to help with the creation of the ARC Investment Oversight Service (IOS), primarily aimed at the Trusted advisor sector, which embraces the many complex challenges and provides a compelling solution by offering the very best ARC services/people to meet these. Business Strategy
-
Sep 2013 - Dec 2014
An exciting role with ARC which started in September 2013 with an initial 4 month review of the current business lines, model and strategy with an eye on exploring what ARC could do in other jurisdictions in an attempt to achieve some ambitious growth targets. I was asked to continue my role for 2014 and assist with the implementation of a number of the strategy recommendations. One of these was to establish an ARC UK London office which I am pleased to say will open for business in October. I have known the Co-founders and many of the staff of this highly respected independent investment consultancy business for many years so it's an exciting opportunity to work with some really nice and clever people. Having established a comprehensive Wealth Management offering for DPZ Capital in respect of key people, business process, MI, marketing and client material it became apparent that the vision for the growth and broader evolution of the business did not align with that of the key stakeholders so we decided to go our separate ways. At some stage I will be exploring other areas of interest. With over 30yrs of UK offshore experience (including 10+ years in a fiduciary "gate keeper" capacity) plus a hands on knowledge of client, investment management, wealth and business management matters I am hopeful that my particular skill set may be put to good use. Director
-
Dec 2005 - Jun 2012
Up to 25 May 2012 I was an Investment Director with RBC Wealth Management based on Jersey. In the 12 months or so prior to leaving RBC I was instrumental in leading a transition project to design & implement a new investment model for use by the RBC Fiduciary business & its clients. This was intellectually rewarding and necessitated all forms of formal/informal dialogue & liaison across several business streams to ensure that most demands could be accommodated. A key part of this task was to address the forthcoming challenge of RDR and how to maintain income & service levels across the business post its introduction in 2012/13. Prior to this task I took a 6 month sabbatical during which time I caught up on some family, travel, motoring, friends & home related stuff – all very enjoyable but it seems a distant memory now !. Up to this time I had, over a number of years, helped to manage the broad activities of the Jersey investment team whose services included Investment Consulting, Advisory/Discretionary portfolio management, Manager selection/due diligence and investment performance monitoring for the firms large Trust client base. Investment Services Director
-
Jul 1995 - Nov 2005
RBC acquired the Abacus Financial Services Group in November 2005. I was one of the senior shareholders and had held the position of Investment Services Director since joining that firm in July 1995. In this role Abacus & I were widely regarded as pioneers with the introduction of a robust & independent performance monitoring service for the firms Trust clients as well as a structured investment manager selection, due diligence and review process. With significant assets being administered by the Trust business & managed by a wide range of 3rd party investment firms Abacus took oversight & control to a much more commercial, consistent & disciplined level – which is still an accepted benchmark today.
