I've often told Tim I wish I could clone him. He's an amazing reporter and writer. He can do the in-depth, hard-hitting package, meticulously reported and written with great care. But he can also do the fun video of the new traffic pattern or a blog post on the Twinkie shortage. He can work in English or Spanish. But more than anything, Tim bring a professionalism and craftsmanship to his work. He is simply a great, award-winning journalist who works as part of a team, but is driven individually to serve the reader and the community at large. He has great ideas and asks questions until he knows more than enough to write a solid story. His quirky sense of humor is a gift to the newsroom as well. He is a leader of his peers and is willing to train young journalists. I was news editor and multimedia editor and when he was hired and continue to marvel at Tim and his work years later.

Tim is a talented and versatile journalist. He's also one of the hardest-working reporters I've met. He has a great ability to multi-task enterprise and spot news stories; plus, his fluency in Spanish helped add a much-needed new dimension to our coverage, which culminated in a community reporting award for our staff. Tim also enjoys experimenting with new media and has found a great blogging voice. He'd be a valuable asset to any newsroom.

I write about politics, people, growing pains due to population expansion, property taxes, immigration, elections and more in Ogden and Weber County. I knock on doors, seek out public records, attend meetings, work the phones, track social media and read lots of documents to get the story. I've written about division among GOPers, the Central American population, worries about subdivisions gobbling up farmland, clamoring for more broadband access, homelessness, the LGBTQ community and more. I also take photos to accompany stories and post to the newspaper's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Show less

I edited copy and helped manage and direct coverage -- in addition to reporting -- in my last five months at the paper. As a reporter, I covered Elkhart city government and kept an eye on federal and state matters as they impacted Elkhart County. I kept tabs on local development, Elkhart residents' battles with city hall, Elkhart County's representatives in Washington, D.C. I wrote about immigration, taxes, the ongoing debate over the LGBT community's place in society. Earlier I covered Elkhart County government. Show less

Covered a broad 24-county region of southwest Kansas out of a one-man bureau in Dodge City. The influx of Hispanic immigrants - there to take jobs in the thriving meatpacking industry - figured big in my reporting. But the topics ran the gamut - moves to lure ethanol plants, life for homosexuals in the rural zone, the tragic death of a young man as he drove to his own wedding. Traveled up and down the country, writing about efforts of the Mapuche Indians to reclaim land lost to colonization, lingering after-effects of the 1973 military coup that brought the late Augusto Pinochet to power, efforts to promote Anarctic tourism via southern Chile. Wrote for a wide range of publications. I started as an intern, eventually turning it into a full-time job covering Mexican politics and editing copy from correspondents from around Latin America. Took to the road, covering Pope John Paul II's 1996 tour of Latin America, Haiti's 1995 presidential vote out of Port-au-Prince and February 1994 peace talks in Chiapas between the Mexican government and Zapatista rebels.
