Key achievements: Met 100% of the US finance team’s month-end reporting deadlines. When the management team decided to close the New Markets operation at the start of 2017, I succeeded in motivating my assistant accountant to continue to engage in the process despite the fact that she was abroad and knew her redundancy was imminent. Where there were loose ends, I took up the reins to ensure no deadlines were missed. Worked alongside the UK finance team and cost centre managers to determine quarterly budgets for the UK company and presented them for review to the European Finance Director. Monitored budgets, controlled expenditure and produced variance analysis for the New Markets in the period up to the cessation of trading. Wound up the Dutch company, successfully ensuring all necessary information concerning customers and suppliers was obtained from staff in the month before they left in order to ensure a smooth closure. Liaised with our legal team, our external accountants and the tax authorities to guarantee compliance with Dutch laws. Chased up and collected over 75% of outstanding debts and contested all unsettled amounts. Produced final payslips, including all additional termination payments, for 30 members of staff and provided detailed explanation and guidance to them where required. Other responsibilities included: Monthly reconciliation of the main ledger accounts and intercompany recharging/invoicing; Liaising with the US and UK finance teams with regard to monthly reporting, annual audits, multi-currency accounts; Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns and working with external accountants on annual tax returns; Running the monthly payroll process; managing and nurturing the development of the assistant accountant in the Dutch office; maintaining the fixed asset register.
