My PhD is using photo-identification capture-recapture and behavioural sampling techniques during boat-based surveys to examine the ecology of the Australian humpback dolphin around the North West Cape, Western Australia. Specifically, I'm examining the population demographics (abundance, residency and site fidelity), habitat use (through species distribution modelling) and social structure of this poorly known species from data collected from April-October of 2013 to 2015. The findings of this research aim to improve the scientific basis for the conservation and management of this recently described, threatened species.
