Recruited into a new role to plan and deliver global IT and telecommunications for an aggressively expanding oil company. My remit was to deliver cost effective, scalable solutions to meet the growth objectives either by company or asset acquisition to acquire FTSE 100 status. Presented a global centralised strategy within the first 3 months, focussing on “getting the basics right”. I built a team for infrastructure and services, and managers to achieve ambitious objectives. I devised and delivered a number of initiatives including a Global MPLS, ’10-‘11, Server and virtual corporate desktop environment (Xendesktop) one of the first companies to achieve this in the upstream business, ’13-‘14, 3+ Tier world class datacentres and disaster recovery backup centres in EMEA and the US, latterly deploying Cisco FlexPod hardware in EMEA, ‘14, a Unified Communications solution LYNC 2013, ’14, VSAT consolidation, ‘13, as well as a Cisco IPS security strategy. In addition, I needed to focus on solutions for the Offshore & Onshore IT & Telecoms field environment; rigs and field camps. Further business benefit in terms of reduced fragmentation, improved manageability and scalability was achieved by adopting a global IT outsourcing strategy then developing integrated teams.
