Senior Engineer - Level III - Distribution Relay/Protection Standards
-
Apr 2020 - Present
- Subject Matter Expert for all PPL's Operational Technology and associated mgmt systems- Leading PPL’s Adaptive Relaying Strategy initiative, which aims to automate the selection of protection settings during abnormal grid configuration. This involves relay changes, Cyme studies, and DMS configuration.- Leading LTN Fault Locating initiative, using new relay data to enable detection of underground network faults by operators.

Senior Engineer - Level III - Distribution SCADA/Network Standards
-
Aug 2018 - Present
- Created new SCADA standard for integration with PPL’s private MPLS network “EUNet”. It works anywhere, mounts to phone board wall, enables cellular SCADA, includes cybersecurity provisions, and reduced capital costs per project.- Became technical owner of PPL's Substation Communications (SCON) program and broadened scope to include RTU replacements and elimination of all leased telco lines. New networks enable connectivity for Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Since May 2018, our team has turned up one RTU/network per week and has surpassed 100 sites. - Maintaining communications parameters within relay standards. Objective for most of our projects is to replace all electromechanical and outdated microprocessor relays and empower PPL's automated power restoration systems.- As communications lead, I provide insight into PPL's overall topology to a variety of projects, like the Keystone Solar Future Project, with the objective of enabling grid support functions for system operators per IEEE 1547. May 2012 - Aug 2012
Worked at corporate headquarters with the Transmission and Substation Maintenance group. Lead efforts to rate hundreds power transformers across PPL. After repairing Excel workbooks and macros, transformer test results were input and seasonal + temperature dependent ratings were output. I trained engineers to use these calc sheets over the years as a full time employee on other teams. Worked at corporate headquarters with the Transmission and Substation Maintenance group.
