This position combines the jobs of support and service administrator and in-home supervisor of 20 some odd staff. As an supports administrator, I develop person-centered plans annually and update on an as-needed basis throughout the year. Each person within my caseload I meet with on a daily basis, and I've had the privilege of being an advocate for their wants and needs. I keep in near constant communication with interdisciplinary teams, including but not limited to, school, county board of developmental disabilities services, mental health/psychology, nursing, and the families/individuals themselves. As a supervisor, I coordinate training for staffing for the two managers that I supervise in addition to the 20+ direct care staff team that work with my caseload. Overseeing implementation of teams wants and needs, I directly supervise implementation of the developed plans on a daily basis. In addition, I reinforce standards and policies set by the facility, the department, and by Medicaid regulations....Are you still reading?Ok, here is what I love about my job, in real-people speak: It fosters creativity, independence, and human relations. I love thinking outside of the box, and doing real things that matter to real people.I take pride in the person-centered plans that I write. Because I know, without a doubt in my mind, that this is the most that that person could put down on paper to help them explain themselves. Self-advocacy, voice, and choice gives me the happy butterflies - my cases can look at their plans and feel pride for as well, because it's what THEY worked hard on; I was just the pen.I work hard, but part of that work is also playing hard. This means taking the time to have impromptu conga-line parades, enjoying the beautiful fall weather, and playing a mean game of rummy. I am of no use to others if they think I am unreachable, and I am of no use to myself if I hide myself away and never enjoy the little things.

In this position, I supervised direct care staff working at Montgomery Developmental Center. From January-July, I was part time intermittent, but from August 2013 until my promotion to Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional in March 2014, I was a full-time supervisor, the only full time shift supervisor on 3rd shift. In this position, I coordinated daily staffing needs, ensuring that all appropriate staff arrived and left as scheduled. I managed call-offs, called the extra hours and overtime rotation rosters when needed, and mandated staff when we were below minimums. This includes direct care staff, nursing, and other shift supervisors. I conducted rounds several times per night, ensuring proper staff conduct and resident care was being given, and reviewed security measures and standards.I also wrote the schedule for all 3rd shift employees, working around vacations, requested days off, and school days, to best fit the schedule to every staff.

In June 2012, I was offered a direct care staff position at Montgomery Developmental Center, part time and intermittent until my promotion in January 2013 to intermittent Residential Care Supervisor. As direct care, my primary responsibility was transportation of the individuals. This was to and from work/school and to and from doctors appointments. While in this position, I had to be very flexible, and work with the shift supervisor and nursing to coordinate care and client care needs so I could accurately communicate to all parties.
