Dissertation: Cytoplasmic Dynein-1 in Photoreceptor Organization and Membrane Protein TraffickingAs a member of the Wolfgang Baehr lab I used conditional deletion of DYNC1H1 in a mouse model system to study the role of cytoplasmic dyein-1 in the organization/survival of photoreceptors and other retinal cells, as well as in the trafficking of proteins to the photoreceptor outer segment. I also determined the viability of cone photoreceptors in Opn1mw/Opn1sw double knockout mice and whether cone structure/function can be rescued using AAV gene therapy.Through responsible usage of lab equipment, chemicals, and other reagents, I maintained a safe laboratory environment for myself and others.Presented research at four research conferences, as well as in lab, departmental, program, and committee meetings.First-author on two papers and one review, co-author on one paper and one review. As a member of the Josh Bonkowsky lab I used morpholino knockdown in a zebrafish model system to study miRNA regulation of axon pathfinding and synaptogenesis in the developing central nervous system under normoxic and hypoxic conditions.Presented research at a scientific conference and in lab and departmental meetings.Co-author on two papers.
