As a student journalist with the South Side production non-profit, Invisible Institute, I work on issues of police accountability and government transparency. I learn to speak publicly about my personal experiences, to creatively express myself and my classmates' experiences through writing and documentary film, and to contribute my thoughts to the Invisible Institute's advocacy work. I worked as a stocker at Walgreens after completing a three month job training at St. Sabina. This was a great opportunity for me to practice using my customer service. I enjoyed learning about how Walgreens keeps their inventory full and neat, and I liked spending my time productively. TRUST is a ten minute film about a high school relationship torn by exposed photos and gossip. I wrote the screenplay based on my interpretation of drama I saw on social media. Our film crew of 10 high school students cast, shot, produced and distribute this film in an intense period of ten weeks, under the guidance of professionals from Columbia College. This film was featured in the Midwest Independent Film Festival in Chicago, and the Latino Fest in San Diego.
