  Barloworld Motor Retail BI’s architecture was Cognos as the reporting tool and the warehouse was running on Oracle, ETL processes were performed using Oracle stored procedures with BizTalk handling the FTP of our data from in-house and 3rd party data sources. After joining the team we immediately began migrating from Oracle to MS Server 2008. Oracle ETL procedures were manually converted to SSIS packages. As a BI developer in this team, we are entrusted with a project from project start to project end. Meaning as a developer one is tasked with Business requirements gathering, turning those into development specifications, developing the ETL following the sourcing of the data packs from in-house and external data sources, modeling the metadata with Cognos framework until the report is written in Cognos report studio. The experience gained throughout this process was invaluable to my experience as a BI developer.
