As the HoD for charcoal exportation, I had a number of responsibilities mainly revolving around managing the importation/exportation of approximately 200 charcoal shipments per year. This lead me to build up knowledge of shipping and export procedures with large shipping lines, such as Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM and SAFMARINE. Furthermore, my role required that I maintain a strong relationship not only with suppliers and customers, but with the shipping lines as well.The role required regular travel to Namibia to conduct quality control inspection of container loading at farms and factories, as well as price negotiation with the suppliers.On the technical front, I became adept at dealing with detailed shipping reports and keeping track of shipments of goods between facilities. I also became familiar with Sage Pastel to keep control of stock. Finally, I have experience with forecasting customer requirements and changes in supplier yields, as well as analysing buying patterns to help forecast order quantities.

While working towards my Certificate in Business Administration, I was the assistant manager at Aromata Bath Products in Durban. This was a small company that specialised in the manufacture and sale of bath products, mainly in the greater Durban area. While working here, I was responsible for supervising multiples staff members, while also being involved in the day-to-day running of the business, including sales and deliveries.
