I had the pleasure of working with Tom for the past many years at SOLAS As an original founder and past president I work closely with Tom over a number of different issues. He is professional, creative, hard-working and I would hire him again as quickly as possible . It’s been a pleasure working with him and I look forward to seeing him and working with him in the future
Jim Youssef, MD
I have had the privilege to work with Tom since he was chosen as ED of the the Society for Lateral Access Surgery. I as part of the selection team that identified Tom as the best leader for this position. During our time working together, I served in SOLAS first as Vice-President then as President, and finally as a Trustee to the Board of Directors. My experience through all of these years provided me with a great sense of his capabilities and organizational skill sets. Tom is a capable, talented and driven individual whose leadership and commitment to success are second to none. He is highly professional, self-motivated and innovative. During his years as ED of SOLAS Tom accepted the various challenges of the society by transitioning it from a solo-industry sponsor to a multi-sponsored entity. He did so by working closely me, the BOD and with industry colleagues, demonstrating value to their organizations and maintaining the mission, vision and goals of SOLAS along the way. He successfully accomplished the recognition of the society as a non-profit organization in California (transitioned from the Netherlands), managed HR, formulated and executed on the budget, assisted the development of a Strategic Plan, and led several successful annual and regional global meetings. Tom was instrumental in achieving adoption and value to the Society's membership despite initiating a membership fee. In fact, he helped grow membership year after year and increased our annual donations from multiple sources during his tenure. Tom is self-driven, honest and ethical. He brings a sense of calm and a positive demeanor to challenging situations. He always has a positive attitude and works very well with many different types of personalities and nationalities. Tom responds very well to feedback and provides tremendous insight to solve difficult problems. Unfortunately, the global pandemic has put tremendous stress on medical societies. Due to these circumstances, the SOLAS BOD decided to merge with the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and Tom facilitated this transition with dignity and professionalism. I highly recommend Tom for any senior manager or ED position. He would serve as a tremendous asset to any organization. I would be happy to provide personal information to anyone whom may seek such inquiries.
