I work across PPG’s seven UK and Ireland chemical and COMAH sites where I have developed a standardised COSHH risk assessment methodology and templates, which will raise sites from a legally non-compliant state to a legally complaint state. This has allowed me to develop a clear approach to OH sampling. I have also led work to interpret complex OH sampling data to find root causes of dangerously excessive chemical exposure. I have overseen COMAH interventions by HSE where I have tracked the delivery of COMAH improvement plans, finding unique cost effective ways to achieve legal compliance across chemical and H&S issues including human factors. I have conducted gap analyses identifying control measures to address UK legislative PPG policy risk gaps, allowing process owners to implement actions plans to reduce risk of major accident hazards on their sites. I undertake chemical regulatory enforcement visits, a role helping to drive safer, more environmentally friendly, sustainable food production. Using my NEBOSH health and safety (H&S) qualification, I also regulate working environments in the UK chemical storage sector, protecting workers and the public from chemical harm.During my industrial site visits I operate within a broad range of legislation including pesticide and biocide regulations (BPR and COPR) and The Health and Safety at Work etc Act. This work involves inspecting the condition of chemical stores and stock, examining operational policies including staff training records and auditing procedures. I work with managerial stakeholders and their representatives’, building positive relationships and networks to achieve long term legislative compliance in H&S and chemical regulation. On visits I am proactive in giving practical H&S and chemical advice to support businesses. I make on site regulatory decisions on business operations, taking proactive legal enforcement action including issuing legal notices, schedules and letters. I support my decisions using published guidance, detailing what a businesses can do to move to a legally complaint state. Outside of direct operational work I have developed new HSE policies and delivered training to staff to drive changes to HSE’s regulatory decision making in the field, reducing the probability of inspectors and HSE facing legal challenge in a judicial review. My guidance was instrumental in changing the HSE’s approach to regulating chemical products sold on the UK market, helping to deliver a coherent legislative message to the chemical industry. Within HSE I have undertaken line manger responsibilities ensuring operational procedures and policies are followed, supporting staff in their roles and taking responsibility for their wellbeing. I have represented HSE colleagues at trade events ensuring their voice is heard at the highest level of government. Show less

In this role I prepared technical evaluations on the physical and chemical properties of Plant Protection Products and active substances, in line with EU and new GB regulation. In preparing my evaluations, I examined the data, scientific tests and methods used by industrial applicants and assessed whether the resulting data met regulatory requirements. At the end of the application process I would evaluate if a product was fit for UK sale.In this work I collaborated with other scientific regulatory specialisms, where I gave written technical and legislative chemistry advice to support, assisting other regulatory experts with their decision making. This work extended to analysing scientific methods and procedures, ensuring calculations and experiments were performed correctly, highlighting potential issues. I also wrote technical documents to go to applicants and third-party laboratory teams, highlighting my legislative position as to why their scientific data didn’t support their claims. In these documents I would describe what work needed conducting, detailing solutions to experimental issues adhering to relevant guidance and legislation, for applicants to meet legal requirements.
