As an analyst at Aberdeen Asset Management I evaluated publicly listed companies and recommended them as investments for the Aberdeen funds. Based in Singapore, which is the regional headquarters for Asia, my scope was pan-Asian equities from the emerging markets of India and China to the developed markets of Japan and Australia including frontier markets such as Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Working in country teams I spent much of my time researching Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Sri Lankan equities.Sitting on the equity desk I co-managed the pan-Asia including Japan portfolios, the Singapore country portfolios and the Indonesia country portfolios. As at March 2014 Aberdeen managed US$107bn of client money across Asia, making it one of the largest mangers of Asia equities globally.

I spent much of my time working with the regional economist as well as with the stock analysts covering the Singapore Offshore & Marine industry and the Singapore property market.I also spent six months on the equity sales desk working with the stock brokers. Much of my time was spent collating data for the Managing Director with regards to the performance of the ASEAN regional offices, markets and competition in which time I learned how a stock broking company makes its money. Otherwise I worked with the sales desk on client relationship management, organizing client events and accompanying Macquarie research analysts to meet with clients.
