I perform an interpretation of the Fire Code for developers and contractors. Preform plan reviews, plat reviews, and fire inspections. I oversee the community outreach program, assist the fire chief with prevention budgeting. I perform fire investigations and file appropriate charges when needed. With building projects and development, I work with other City departments and City management. I am also part of the Emergency Management team. I assist with IAP’s “incident action plans”, documents and communicate with local and state representatives. Schertz is within three different counties, and two of those counties have an integrated response network. I participate in those committees for Comal and Guadalupe Counties. I also supervise the staff of fire inspector(s) along with light-duty personnel. When available, I assist with incident command and other operational duties Show less

In September of 2002, I started as a firefighter moved to Lieutenant in Aug. 2009. In March of 2012, I was promoted to Shift Captain. While in the position of Lieutenant, I was the City Fire Marshal and department training officer. I oversaw the engine company operation. When promoted to Captain, I was also the Emergency Management Coordinator — and headed up training for paid and volunteer staff. When I was the shift commander, I oversaw the paid and volunteer staff. I assisted the Fire Chief with budget and purchasing. I wrote grants on department items on the local, state, and federal levels. Show less
