  Thesis: "LncRNA Functions in Retina Development and Regeneration"Neurons of the retina in zebrafish can be regenerated following an injury by new differentiation. The regeneration potential is available but limited in birds. In mammals, the retina harbors no physiological adult neurogenesis. However, stimulation of limited levels of neuronal regeneration in the retina was recently shown in young mice in vivo and in vitro. The regeneration ability vanishes over time and neuronal regeneration might be misregulated in mammals, so that neurogenesis is repressed. This is probably influenced by epigenetic factors. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in diverse biological processes, such as activation or silencing of transcription and modulation of epigenetic states. We want to examine the impact of known and new lncRNAs putatively involved in the regeneration potential of neurons inside the retina. The regeneration of neurons in the retina is influenced by the Müller Glia (MG) development.
