During mid-November of 2019 i undertook temporary work at a local school in Halifax - The Halifax Academy. I was made aware of this role via a recruitment agency that proposed this role to me, it was for an ICT Technician. I was made aware of this role via a recruitment agency that proposed this role to me, it was for an ICT Technician. My love for computers & tech drove me to accepting this role and i was offered the job and a start date.I knew the nature of the work was temporary from the get-go, but i wanted to dive in deep and help the existing IT staff cope with the pressure as they were a man-down already by the time of me starting. In any case, i was responsible for spot checks of all the IT Suites across the site, double checking the functionality of the equipment. Including the PC setup & the peripherals; such as the keyboards, mice and headphones. In addition to this, i was tasked with checking the main hall's sound equipment ready for the ensuing assembly's.I was entrusted with various tasks over my time at The Halifax Academy. Using my prior knmowledge and passion for tech i felt i made a difference by taking the pressure of the IT staff by helping around the site. During my time, i began to get to know the staff better each day. Being a presence around the site running errands, i was privy to conversations in passing; raising further issues for me to attend to. I loved the aspect of this job, being pro-active & listening to the technical issues that the staff were having. For me, this was about changing the environment of the IT department. Being able to take a pro-active approach to solving technical issues, and ultimately solving & spotting issues before they develop into a massive problem. Show more Show less

I started a part-time position with a local restaurant working as a waiter, in this role i was responsible for service quality meals and quality service to the customers. As well as ensuring the cleanliness of the restaurant, making sure the tables were set in preparation for the next customers and that they were clean & presentable. The aspect about this work i enjoyed the most, was talking with the customers and having friendly banter whilst fulfilling my duties. Anything from discussing football to favourite beers. Engaging on a personal level with the customers in this way, gave the feeling of welcoming the customers as something more than a customer. Cultivating an environment with the customers that encouraged them to hopefully return. From communicating with the customers, my skills in communication were tested in this job. As this was a fairly new environment & a fast-paced one at that; i had to adapt fast in order to keep up. This was a valuable learning experience for me, as i had to pick the pace of learning up very fast in order to fulfil my duties on a shift. With the help of the team i was able to hit the ground running quickly and soon i was well on my way to becoming just as good as the team.Communication with the team was critical in this role and the room for error was slim, it was a fast-paced environment working in a very busy restaurant. Having to pass information over quickly and accurately to ensure that customer service & experience was maintained at all times. Show more Show less

Similar to my role at Yorkshire Water/Morrison Utilities. I worked on the department that handled the roadworks that were being undertaken by SDH. As well as this i was in contact with highway authorities within the radius for the works to overcome some issues preventing us to undertake the works planned.I also managed the spreadsheets and whereabouts of the team of guys that we had working for us. This allowed myself and my colleague accurate information, so that we could plan works in without any clashes. It also allowed me to get to know the staff around the office well, this also applied to the roadworks team; the guys who go out and undertake the works. Getting to know these guys and developing a professional relationship with them, helped me ease into the role and be able to call them up whilst working to iron-out any creases that arose during the day-to-day operations. Similar to the previous jobs i had, communication was key. In learning the ropes of the job and allowing me to quickly pick up the duties and responsibilities; and become a valued asset to the business. Show more Show less

For Morrison/Yorkshire Water, i worked on the NRSWA section. In this section, the team & I were responsible for handling the correspondence between local highways authorities. Ensuring that the roadworks we undertook were in line with the regulations that the highway authorities set.Such as an allotted time to complete the roadworks, and handling extensions when they were deemed necessary. In addition to this, the team & I handled any fines that were set towards the company. Such as any equipment that was left on the site we undertook roadworks, such as sandbags or signage. We would receive notification of this and either accept or negotiate the terms of the penalty. During my time, i developed a strong working relationship with the colleagues on the team & in addition to this i became a strong & trusted member of the division and was depended on to fulfil my duties and then some. Communicating effectively with my team, explaining the issues at hand in a timely manner greatly assisted the day-to-day operations and saved the company a lot of stress in the form of penalties by my prompt reporting of the issues.
