I had the pleasure of working with Thomas during my year at Graphite as a product designer and he was a fantastic line manager. Thomas excelled at fostering a culture of communication and collaboration within the design team. He was genuinely invested in our growth, development, and overall happiness within the organization. I felt that he really took the time to understand my goals, strengths, and aspirations, actively seeking opportunities to support me in achieving them. Having a manager who truly listened and fostered creativity was incredibly refreshing. During our 1-to-1s and team gatherings, Thomas successfully built a team based on mutual trust, respect, and an environment where it was evident that people felt safe to voice any challenges or issues we were facing. It was clear that he tried his hardest to create a positive and happy work culture for not just his team but company wide. For myself, the trust Thomas placed in me to lead two teams played a pivotal role in my career growth as it expanded my skill set and provided me with valuable experience in managing and guiding others. Thomas provided regular mentorship which helped me identify areas for improvement and his guidance enabled me to feel comfortable in taking on new challenges allowing me to step outside of my comfort zone. I felt that Thomas really created an environment where he collaboration thrived and everyone felt valued. His leadership style and dedication to our well-being made a significant impact on both my personal and professional development.

I worked in Thomas’ design/research capability at Graphite from 2021 -2023. Thomas was a great line manager and is passionate about making a difference in healthcare via digital, which is why I think we had a mutual understanding from the off. Thomas is great at explaining digital design processes to both colleagues and clients and always advocates for user needs and true people-centred design, even when this is difficult due to poor UX maturity or other barriers. Thomas also leads from the front and demonstrated an impressive willingness to get heavily involved in day-to-day project work when required, as well as wider design strategy. More to the point, Thomas is easy to work alongside and offers his expertise & guidance in a way that compliments projects instead of taking them over. I always felt like I had the support I needed working with Thomas, and Thomas’ optimistic approach helped me through some professional and personal challenges during my time at Graphite which I remain grateful for. Thomas always demonstrated a commitment to helping his team grow and develop and was always very encouraging about upskilling and learning new skills. I will miss working with Thomas and some of the nerdy chats we shared about all things digital health, but at the same time I would highly recommend working with Thomas if you can!

It’s really hard to find a talented and driven leader who not only cares for their team but inspires others to be the best version of themselves. Thomas is this and more! I had the pleasure of working with him at Graphite for over a year and I was continually impressed by his commitment to grow the business, create a diverse and inclusive team, achieve success and inspire excellence in others. The one thing that stands out to me about his leadership style which I respect the most is that he leads with honesty, integrity, empathy and has a strong moral compass regardless of gender, age or race. This is such a rare trait to find within a male leader in our industry and I have seen him embody this every day at Graphite. Thomas is also very generous with his time and always took time out to share his knowledge and expertise with others. He has a wealth of experience and understanding in the Pharma and Healthcare industry coupled with his business savvy ideas has seen Graphite grow from a small agency to a 3 million + business in a short space of time. Thomas pioneered product offerings that help clients scale design systems and user centric Design solutions globally. Fast forward to now.... he has built Design and Research teams at Graphite and continues to be a thought leader in this space. I cannot recommend Thomas highly enough. His strategic thinking, creative vision and ability to execute on complex projects is truly exceptional. He has a keen eye for detail and is able to bring out the best in his team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Furthermore, Thomas is an excellent communicator who can effectively convey complex ideas and concepts to clients and stakeholders. His passion for design and creativity is contagious, and I have no doubt that he would make a valuable addition to any organization.

I've worked as a Senior designer for the international charity AVERT since 2006. I was managing one junior web designer and worked closely with the web developer, the content team and the fundraiser. I was responsible for AVERT's visual identity and promotion through their popular website, which receives over 500 000 visits a week and offers more than 250 pages. I also produced videos, animation and fundraising material such as leaflets, flyers, booklets and adverts. Working for a charity with a limited budget and whose main activity is an information and advocacy website is a constant challenge. We always bring new technologies and innovations with accessibility and the user in mind. The website has to be accessible to everyone, from an old computer with a slow connection in Uganda to American teenagers on a smart phone. I multiplied the access to Avert's online media gallery, from 1000 views to 8000, by adding videos and reworking the navigation to create more page connections. Another great achievement was producing a video for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The video had more than 9000 views in the first month of being live. This project brought together Avert's writers, the fundraiser and designers to find clever and cost-effective solutions, footballers, equipment and sponsors. Show less
