Responsible for the operations of a multi-state insurer by directing a nine member team of vice presidents and department managers accountable for all functional areas of the enterprise. Managed the strategic planning program to assure proper development, execution, and timely completion of all objectives and goals. Guiding this process resulted in the corporate expansion and diversification of premium writings. During my incumbency the company received licensing authority to enter five new states and to begin offering coverage to all industry groups in addition to the construction sector. These initiatives increased market penetration and annual revenue. Monitored the company's operating performance by analyzing monthly profit and loss information and determining the variances between actual and forecasted amounts. Evaluated the organization's product and service programs with actuaries to determine adequate rates and pricing postures. When applicable, implemented new underwriting methodologies to strengthen results. Increased the entity's asset base, annual estimated premium revenue, returned the pure loss ratio to an acceptable range, and maintained an A.M. Best rating of A-(excellent) for ten consecutive years during my tenure. Created a model agency program to structure producer recruitment and retention, identify development and training needs, determine annual premium commitments, and evaluate yearly performance. Executed an agency contingency commission incentive plan to entice new business growth. Appointed and terminated agents based on production needs and loss ratio results. Directed the annual budget process and reviewed results monthly to determine if cash flow, expenditures, and vendor usage were within approved guidelines. Reported all financial information quarterly to the Board of Directors. Selected staff, mentored and coached managers in all functional areas to enhance their skills. Show less
