I had the pleasure of collaborating with Thomas over the course of several years while we both worked at FactSet Research Systems, Inc. Thomas served in a variety of roles during this time, of which a key one was manager of content collection and reporting databases used by my team. Thomas brought to the job not just a mastery of the technical skills required for this role, but also an aptitude to grasp the business logic that drove the collection and -- crucially in my opinion -- a firm belief in empowering his non-engineering colleagues to use their own technical skills and creativity to develop solutions that avoided what could at be bureaucratic logjams. At the same time Thomas was always keen to use and encourage best practices and was extraordinarily generous with his time in mentoring those same non-engineering colleagues in the proper use of tools such as SQL and various coding languages. While at FactSet, Thomas had a track record of successes not least of which were a series of improvements to the company's ownership content collection processes. No better example of this was a large-scale overhaul to the UK Share Register analysis process which required him to acquire a mastery of not just the database and application workings, but also the subject matter itself. He dove into project with enthusiasm and met each challenge with sharp analyses and good humor.
