Georgia Team Liaison Officer - Invictus Games 2014
-
Sep 2014 - Sep 2014
I was selected to host and support the team of wounded, injured and sick Georgian athletes and their support staff during the 2014 Invictus Games in London, accompanying them throughout their entire time in the UK• Working with a significant language barrier, and regularly spending 16 hours a day with the team, I successfully ensured that they had all the appropriate logistical and medical support and that they met the objectives of the games programme including training sessions, briefings and competition events, as well as engagements with VIPs and Royalty.• I liaised with military colleagues, civilian contractors, event managers and logistics specialists to ensure a constant flow of critical and time sensitive information to the team, overcoming the difficulties associated with the spread of athletes across numerous training and competition locations.• I was entrusted to host senior officials and diplomats, including the Georgian Ambassador, Defence and Deputy Defence Ministers. I successfully ensured that Defence Attachés from both nations were able to attend and support the team throughout the games, often reacting to such requests at very short notice.• Learning of the tragic story of one of the athletes, I contacted BBC production staff and persuaded them to broadcast his account. His story was told on national television in an interview with Sir Matthew Pinsent. Show less
