Postgraduate research of Jet-ECM technologies in regards to processing multi-materials with an Industry 4.0 ready device. Roles:-The design, manufacture and testing of a Jet electro-chemical machining (Jet-ECM) device at the school of mechanical, aerospace and civil engineering at the University of Manchester. This includes the use of various design and modelling software packages (Solidworks, Solid edge, Ansys, Fluent). Installation and programming of electro-mechanical systems and process monitoring systems, including the use of LabView software.- Data monitoring and transfer mechanisms to cloud based systems.- Industry 4.0 projects. Winner of the Siemens MindSphere Open Space Challenge 2018-Inspection of post-processed metallic parts using various optical and contact systems.-Thorough research into current technologies and previous investigations in the field.- Writing and presenting of conference/journal papers.-Assisting and teaching of undergraduate laboratories.- Show less

    • Casual Research Assistant - Project GRACE

A Global Circular Economy for Medical Prosthetics. (Project GRACE)During this period I was hired on a short fixed term contract to conduct research into the life cycle of lower limb trans-tibial prosthetic devices, and analyse the possibility of a circular economy in prosthetic devices to improve the quality of life in Sub-Saharan communities. My role was predominantly research based, with research being conducted into:- the range of prosthetic devices available in economically developed countries, including mechanical design, materials, parts interfaces.- the current life cycle of prosthetics in the UK, including EU regulations on disposal and re-use of medical devices.- amputation causes and statistics in both the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa- circular economy principles- rapid manufacture of prosthetic devices- scanning technologiesOn top of the research, I reverse engineered a high quality prosthetic device to look into changing the design to allow common interfaces between parts recycled from various suppliers, and began to design and rapid prototype scale prosthetic sockets. Jet Electro-chemical machining technology. In this role I took over the design, manufacture and testing of a Jet electro-chemical machining (ECM) device at the school of mechanical, aerospace and civil engineering at the University of Manchester. During this time, I used the SolidWorks CAD package to design a rig to house a 3-axis gantry system, reservoir and low pressure hydraulic system. This included the sourcing of several parts from pumps and filters to mounting plates and reservoirs. I worked closely with an electronics engineer in sourcing parts and installing the motor drive control systems and pump control mechanisms for electro-mechanical control.I setup the parameters and programming for the axis control system and performed the original movement testing on the device. Carrying on I performed basic testing on the machining setup and capability of the Jet-ECM machine to develop the project to a working position. Show less

During my time at Bifold Fluidpower, my main responsibity lied in designing and testing high pressure hydraulic valves for a variety of environments. Whilst there, my projects also extended into pneumatic valves, Subsea hydraulic valves and the mechanical design in process control systems. I was involved in the design of Exd and fireproof parts and the processes involved to gain the appropriate certification. Added responsibilities were the rapid prototyping of parts through 3D printing technology and aiding the marketing team. Show less
