  As a developer at Thomsonlocal my main responsibilities are to develop websites and software for the company. This ranges from the main website to back end processes, databases and api's for integration with partner companies. Thomsonlocal have given me the opportunity to learn whilst working and through this I have discovered a passion for development and learning. Projects I have worked on include : Re-writing the website to MVC 4, this was to make the codebase more maintainable and improve the site performance. In doing this I learnt to unit test and use dependency injection. Creating a mobile website and accompanying cms site which displays articles on how to solve household problems (eg leaky tap). On this project I learnt responsive design and used entity framework code first to store article data. Creating an api for partners to access so that they can send us their business listings and we can dislay them across various website. This taught me to use rest web api and I learnt a lot about sql and database design whilst doing so. I am currently working on a automatic bidding platform for google adwords and bing ads, this is an exciting project for me as it involves a lot of mathematics so I am putting to use many of the skills I learnt on my degree.
