Continued to build upon what was learned at the sheriff's office about officer safety, interview tactics, investigative skills, and other facets of the law enforcement career field. Continued to employ a proactive approach to protecting the community in order to help prevent crime from occurring, for presence, and to effect community oriented policing. Enforced Alaska state statutes and Fairbanks city codes. Promptly and safely responded to citizen complaints both criminal and civil in nature, utilizing emergency equipment as needed if an expedited response is required. Enforced traffic laws by observing violations, conducting traffic stops, and taking appropriate action. Conducted investigations and made arrests on a patrol level by identifying and apprehending suspects. Wrote detailed and thorough reports so further investigation could be conducted via the detectives of the Criminal Investigations Division of the police department. Properly packaged and maintained evidence in order to preserve the chain of custody of the evidence. Performed these duties while working in harsh weather conditions and high rates of crime relative to the size of the city served, including winter conditions as cold as -50 degrees Fahrenheit. Aided in receiving, screening, and responding to well over 20,000 calls for service across the agency per year. Represented myself, the Fairbanks Police Department, and the city of Fairbanks with honor and integrity. Show less

Oct 2014 - Feb 2018
Began shaping my career as a law enforcement officer by developing my officer safety skills, interview tactics, and investigative skills. Learned how to work as a team on a shift with other deputies and how to perform well in the position via proactive enforcement actions such as traffic stops, nightly business checks, and self-generated field contacts. Demonstrated what I learned about handling calls, investigations, and report writing to supervisors on different shifts. Worked well with over 200 deputies at the agency. Gained a large amount of experience with investigations such as elder neglect and abuse, death investigations, and missing persons due to dementia/Alzheimer's disease. This was due to the large retirement community (The Villages) contained within the county borders. Represented myself, the Sheriff, and the Sumter County Sheriff's Office with honor and integrity.
