  Nuclear Safety Assurance independently reviews, assesses and reports to the Group Executive on the extent to which the Nuclear Operating Unit fulfils its nuclear safety role effectively and sustainably in the discharge of its mandate. The assurance is conducted against Eskom’s nuclear safety objectives and benchmarked against top quartile international nuclear performance. The overall goal is to facilitate nuclear safety. This involves analysing all relevant international and national legal and statutory requirements, policies, directives and procedures and highlighting deviations from these. As well as implementing a comprehensive and integrated assessment management system for all nuclear activities.

As a System Engineer, I was responsible for both my systems condition and performance and for the resolution of all engineering problems related to the condition and/or performance of the systems. Scope of work included: Engineering oversight on high voltage equipment, including main 1072 MVA generators, power transformers, High Voltage switchgear and power station reticulation

  Component Engineering is responsible for the on-going performance capabilities of components on the plant. I was responsible responsible for investigating component failures through root cause analysis and ensuring maintenance preventable failures. I was also responsible for resolving any issues relating to the performance and/or condition of the nuclear plant, trending component performance, repair/refurbishment practices for components and the development of the Maintenance Programmes and RCM studies for systems and components.

  Electrical Maintenance Services is part of the Koeberg Maintenance Department and is responsible for the servicing and maintenance of electrical plant critical to both nuclear reactor operation and electricity production. I was responsible for the management of a team of Engineers, Technicians, Artisans and Semi-skilled labour, management of an annual budget of 5,6 ZAR., industrial relations, grievances, disciplinary action and hiring of new staff and technical issue resolution.
