AIYEP is a Australian & Indonesian Government programme designed to improve cultural awareness and cooperation between both countries. I spent two months living in West Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia with two host families in Sambas and Pontinanak. I assisted in coordinating community development projects in consultation with local stakeholders. From the programme I gained the following skills: - Project management experience. - Budgetary and accounting experience. - Working with a diverse team of Indonesians and Australians. Project outcomes included: A new water tank for village mosque; library for village; repaired and painted kindergarten play equipment; promoted healthy eating & sports for young girls.
