Mike is an excellent writer and a great guy. Sometimes he is given next to nothing to work with, but he always manages to come up with something good for me to work with. He's always positive and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure his part of the job is finished on time.

Mike Goldfine

Mike's key assets are his ability to get the job done no matter the difficulty and by doing so with outstanding inerpersonal communications. Mike was a key asset to our teams success during the census.

Those ads on the back of the grocery store receipt? Yep, I sold them. From no experience in sales to making a good living off 100% commission in the blink of an eye. I worked every Kroger and Spartan owned grocery store from Pontiac to Midland. It was a cool job and a fantastic product most of the time. If you have a business that’s no more than 4 miles from a grocery store, you’re something mom needs on a daily, weekly, or quarterly basis - they can definitely help you. Show less

Pretty much the most fun I've ever had writing. Who wouldn't enjoy going into a store and picking out a greeting card that they wrote? Yeah, I get to do that. I take each new batch of images and allow them to weave their way through my silliness and sappiness. It's really a challenge and I love it. Pretty much the most fun I've ever had writing. As the title implies, I wrote copy for businesses who wished to advertise in The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press. I was a voice for those clients who couldn’t afford an agency, didn’t want an agency or just loved the way I write. From digital ads to print ads to direct mail - I would show them how their message would read from one format to the next. I also worked on internal needs, promotional items and banners. The part you likely don't know, is that I proofread ads before they went into the paper. I checked to make sure everything the client asked for, is in the ad and that it reads well too. Show less

The day started at 2 a.m. - 5 days a week - as I helped to produce the Free Press Express portion of First Forecast Mornings on WWJ-TV Detroit. I would read stories, fact-check, rewrite, ensure continuity and scour news outlets for breaking news all while running the teleprompter. I was also responsible for pulling graphics for the show - searching a database of images, toning and cropping them and putting them into a presentation before each show (and sometimes during it). It was a fantastic experience that taught me how to get 20 minutes of work done in a 3 minute commercial break. Show less

The government called, I answered. As a CLA I didn't do much door-to-door work until really tough cases presented themselves. You know the people, they didn't agree with Obama's politics - hated the government - didn't trust the Census - couldn't get a raspberry filled doughnut and needed to vent. That's where I came in. I would find a way to get their information through every channel the US Department of Treasury deemed reliable. In the meantime, I would collect timesheets from my half of our crew, double check their work and make sure everyone was collecting data according to the government's rules. Show less

I installed windows. I stuffed the gaps between the windows with insulation. I climbed ladders when it was snowing. I worked with power tools in the rain. I cleaned up the worksite. I lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks. I worked my butt off. It kept food on the table and me focused on putting my portfolio together. Worst job ever. I installed windows. Ya ever wonder how all those ads get to the radio and television stations? Broadcast traffic. While at FCB I was responsible for sending out video and audio files for Jeep and Chrysler. It was a good job, I had a nice office, a couple of desks and I made a decent wage. I was a part of a welcoming committee at FCB called the "Guide Program", we'd throw parties for new employees welcoming them. We would also take part in training new employees on agency culture and practices. Unfortunately, we lost the Chrysler/Jeep account and the office closed. Show less

So here's my first adventure in advertising outside of Doner. I learned something important, the grass is NEVER greener. My paycheck was, but the same issues were still present. So, I put my head down and got to work. My job mainly consisted of sending out tapes and instructions for Domino's Pizza. And occasionally for White Castle, Sherwin WIlliams and a few other clients. But Domino's kept me busy. One of my bigger responsibilities at JWT included helping my co-workers transition to a digital delivery system. When I started my tiny cubicle was home to the department's lone remaining typewriter click-clack-click-clack-ding-ziiiip. Some of our team was very resistant to change. But we eventually got everyone on board. I also worked with our delivery vendor to streamline their software and processes to better meet our needs and those of other traffic departments. I enjoyed my time at JWT, but eventually left for a job closer to home and a bigger paycheck. Show less
