The Law Offices of Fellom and Solorio specializes in family-based immigration matters as well as defensive and affirmative Asylum cases, U-visas, and Immigration court proceedings. Nancy Fellom and Paula Solorio, the two partners of the firm, have served the San Francisco Bay area community for over 30 years and have a well-known reputation in their quality of work. Our main clientele is heavily represented by low-income members of the Latino community. We also serve a very small population that includes clients from countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. As a family-based immigration law office, our goal is to aid and assist our clients in receiving work permits, Lawful Permanent Residence, Citizenship, Asylum status, defense against deportation, U-visa status, travel permits (for those who are not Permanent Residents), and visitor visas. Legal Assistants are required to be fluent in both English and Spanish, we meet with clients who only speak Spanish on a regular basis. Duties include: meeting with clients to fill out various immigration forms, translating documents from Spanish to English, following up with clients regarding questions and missing documents needed for their case, serving as an interpreter during immigration interviews, drafting motions and declarations for attorneys, and assisting attorneys in any other way necessary. Rinse is creating a seamless dry cleaning laundry experience designed entirely around your needs. We pick-up and drop-off at your door. We deliver on your schedule. We provide full transparency with everything we do. Some see it as revolutionary. We see it as common sense. Our world-class customer service is something we take immense pride in. Service is meaningless without quality, though. We only work with incredibly qualified cleaners, and we inspect every item we receive, so that the clothes you get back are spotless and ready for action. We are proud of what we do because it’s a reflection of where we come from. James (our co-founder) grew up working in his parents' shop in South San Francisco, where they’ve been for 20+ years. For every item we clean, we have one main goal: make Mom and Dad proud. Operations Associates are pre-qualified to batch-out customer items, batch-in items returned from vendors, create customer name tags and new bags, and other office related timely tasks. Working approximately 30 hours per week, Operations Associates work both individually to batch out all of our customer orders (sometimes more than 200 in one day), and as a team to help each other when issues are faced and need to be reported to the Customer Experience team and to Management. Operations Associates are the inventory specialists of the company, and are always relied upon to help make our customer's experience with Rinse a positive one, and to help keep basic operations of the company flowing. The GatorAider program at San Francisco State University works directly under the Undergraduate Advising Center and New Student Programs to train students on assisting new incoming students to register for classes, utilize campus resources, and provide professional peer counseling. The Advising Center and New Student Programs have developed a unique way for SF State students to become peer advisors, assisting with academic support and counseling. Prospective peer advisors are required to enroll in Counseling classes designed to train them to orient new students and their family members as part of the summer and winter Orientation Program. At Orientation, GatorAiders assist the Orientation Director with check-in, take a small group on campus tours, explain about the University's requirements, make recommendations on classes and course load, check students' Academic Progress Records, and in general, provide a positive role model for the incoming students to the university. Peer advisors are required to take a counseling class every semester that preps GatorAiders on peer advising and SF State policies, procedures and requirements. Being a GatorAider has many academic and social benefits while providing hands-on peer advising experience. Show less

CollegeSpring partners with schools and community organizations to help students from low-income backgrounds boost SAT scores, navigate college admissions and financial aid, and confidently pursue college degrees. CollegeSpring mentors work to give all students the opportunity to choose a four-year college by tutoring high school juniors and helping them to prepare in-depth for the SAT. Mentors learn to teach and to teach well. We facilitate discussion and provide the skilled guidance needed to help students really “get it.” In the intimacy of a small-group setting, we help students clarify confusing concepts and sharpen their skills in order to achieve the SAT scores they need to succeed. We also prepare students for college admissions and financial aid, so that this one first step, taking the SAT, becomes the beginning of a successful college journey. As college students, we serve as much more than just tutors. We lead by example, helping high school students gain confidence in their own ability to not only go to college, but to be high-achievers and leaders on campus. As near-peer role models, our stories become key assets as we help students realize that taking the SAT and applying to college, which may seem like daunting obstacles, are actually achievable. CollegeSpring mentors are dedicated, passionate strivers in the classroom and beyond. Mentors come from all sorts of colleges, majors, and walks of life, but share a firm belief in educational equity and the desire to make a concrete difference. Show less

California JusticeCorps program recruits, trains and places over 270 undergraduates and recent graduates in court-based self centers. The JusticeCorps program assists California courts in meeting the needs of self-represented litigants (people who come to court without lawyers) by recruiting and training over 270 college students and recent graduates annually to help litigants in California’s court-based self-help centers. JusticeCorps members make a commitment to national service by assisting court staff with legal workshops, helping self-represented litigants complete legal forms, providing information and referrals, and offering language assistance to customers when necessary. Self-help centers serve as a single point of access for court users navigating the court system on their own. The JusticeCorps members serving in these centers provide legal information, not advice-- they help people help themselves. Currently, over 270 members serve in the program annually. Minimum-time members commit to 300 hours during an academic year in self-help centers. In return, they receive approximately 30 hours of training as well as a education award when they complete the program. Show less

As an undergraduate intern at the San Francisco Superior Court, I had the opportunity to shadow a judicial officer, observe various court hearings, and assist the family law clerks. As part of the Judicial Internship course offered at San Francisco State University, I had the opportunity to shadow the Commissioner whom oversaw the Child Support calendar, and met with her 10 hours per week. During this time, I was also exposed to several other areas of the law (Probate, Guardianship/Conservatorship, Small Claims, Civil Harassment, and Criminal law), and met one-on-one with many of the presiding judges. When the semester came to a close, and my time as an intern was coming to an end, I asked the Commissioner if I could stay a few extra weeks to learn more about the California Court System and the Family Law department. During my extra time, I served as an assistant to Family Law clerks by providing them copies, filing legal documents, scanning files into their Integrated Justice System (IJS), mailing out dissolution judgments, and organizing judicial files. The ASI Project Connect: Recruitment and Retention Resource Center’s Internship program is designed to empower San Francisco State University (SFSU) students by developing professional and leadership growth through their student involvement. As mentors, role models and activists, students will impact under represented communities. The Internship program offers SFSU students an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with other students through mentoring and group activities. It allows students the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the various campus retention and recruitment services available. Interns will serve as community organizers and they will have the opportunity to work with the community on campus and off campus. As community organizers they will do outreach activities, organize presentations, workshops and events. They will also be responsible for making phone calls, preparing banners and material needed for outreach presentations and events. Students will help promote the RRC and SFSU services by being involved and informed. I served as an ASI PC intern for one semester, and then was promoted to Outreach Coordinator. As Outreach Coordinator my responsibilities were to: organize campus tours; "Yes You Can” Student Panels; and Interviews with College students to all community college, high school, and elementary school students that came to visit our campus. I also organized two major events at San Francisco State University: the Early College Outreach Day for elementary school students, and Higher Learning Day for middle school and early high school students. For each event, we hosted over 400 students, teachers, and parents to join us for a day filled with workshops led by SFSU student organizations and University Programs, campus tours, and guest speakers. The Early College Outreach Program exists to begin early awareness of higher education for students in historically underrepresented communities in San Francisco. Show less
