Assist the Chief in the overall Fire and EMS operations and will be directly responsible for the duties assigned below. Administers pre-hospital emergency care to the level of certification recognized by the State of Iowa, Bureau of Trauma Services. All patients in need of care or requesting assistance will be treated with compassion and professionalism. It is imperative that members make all necessary medical decisions per their state certified scope of practice. All members will work as a team member within the emergency response system that the City of Indianola provides.• Enforces rules and policies of the department, recommends disciplinary action to Chief when situations warrant.• Ensures proper operation and maintenance of fire apparatus, tools, equipment, and other property belonging to the department.• Responds to Fire and EMS calls when available and directs firefighting operations when assigned to do so by the Chief or as situations warrant.• Assist in training activities of the department as a lead instructor or as an assistant.• Develops course outlines and is fully responsible for training sessions assigned to him/her.• Covers weekend duties as the officer in charge from time-to-time.• Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced for the protection of the crews, co-workers and public.
