  While serving my articles at Bowmans, I gained practical legal experience in the following areas of law: Employment Law - January 2018 - July 2018 I worked in the Employment and Benefits team where I was involved with among other things conducting research and preparing legal opinions for clients on a range of employment related issues, assisting with the preparation for and attending to CCMA and Labour Court proceedings and drafting various correspondences (including to opposing counsel, correspondent attorneys and clients). Mergers and Acquisitions - August 2018 - January 2019 I worked in the Private Equity team where I assisted with among other things drafting and/or reviewing company documents such as memorandum of incorporation, board and shareholder resolutions and shareholders' agreements. I was also involved with reviewing client documents for the purpose of legal due diligence and drafting the legal due diligence report and preparing and facilitating deal closings, signs and post-closing transactional work. Competition Law - February 2019 - July 2019 As a member of the Competition Law team I assisted with conducting research and preparing advisory notes to clients on South African and African competition law related inquiries including inquires related to new developments in competition law in South Africa and Africa and I assisted with drafting merger filling related documents. General Banking and Finance - August 2019 - January 2020 During my time in the Banking and Finance team I assisted with among other things the facilitation of general finance transactions, liaising with various stakeholders in those transactions such as the clients, lender and borrower counsel and managing the fulfillment of condition precedents. I also assisted with the drafting and negotiation of finance documents such as facilities agreements and common terms agreements and preparing for and facilitating deal closings, signings and post-closing transactional work.   The vacation work program was my first experience with a law firm and law in the real world. I was introduced to the firm and the different departments and teams in the firm. I spent one week with the mining law team and another week with corporate law team. The experience was educational and contributed positively to my legal studies.
