Tess is a hardworking and committed member of staff whom I have worked with for 10 years and line managed directly for five years. She is very student focussed in her actions and strives to give the students the best opportunities to meet their potential. She has the ability to think outside the box and can be very innovative in her approach. She is very employer focussed and is very interested in the role of the employer and how this can support students development. She therefore acted as employer liaison for the whole department being instrumental in setting up work placement opportunities, employer forums to support curriculum planning. This is turn enabled the college to increase its work with employers and ultimately employer engagement. She was instrumental in using the Moodle forum to keep contact with students whilst on placement in both real time and through electronic journals. This was commended and viewed during a recent Ofsted inspection as good practice. She also has a good working knowledge of work based learning and apprenticeship and study programmes. She is a good manager of people and has good working relationships with her staff and students.

I am currently the programe area leader for the level 3 Extended Diploma, Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma Animal Management students, a total of 200 this year. I am responsbile for the organisation and effectiveness of hte course over the 2 year period. I also have line management responsibilities for 7 staff, including appraisals and setting KPI's. One of my main passions is employer engagement and I am continuing with this as well, using employer events to engage them fully with the study programmes and with curriculum design. This year I am heavily involved in the planning of new methods of delivery including self directed, moodle based blended learning. Show less
