This is a permanent position with the Canadian Bar Association , a professional, voluntary organization which was formed in 1896, and incorporated by a Special Act of Parliament on April 15, 1921. The Association represents some 37,000 lawyers, judges, notaries, law teachers, and law students from across Canada. Approximately two-thirds of all practicing lawyers in Canada belong to the CBA. Among other services, it is the premier provider of personal and professional development and support to all members of the legal profession. The current IT project is the upgrade of the professional development section (an e-commerce website in its own right) of the Association’s very large web presence, which is architected using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for its data requirements. The data layer consists of many large databases including one for each of the country’s provinces and territories, as each has its own membership, professional development programs and tax rules. The professional development section supplies training materials for a fee in the form of attendance to live events, video streaming of those live events, streaming and downloading of archived video files, and presentation of other training materials in the form of textual documentation.

This was a contract position with InnovaPost to convert Canada Post’s Address Management System (AMS), a Windows application, from.NET Framework 2.0 to the CSLA.NET framework using .NET 3.5. The project is intended to decouple the management of address information from the ArcGIS System over which AMS was originally built in order to realize significant increases in speed of access to the Oracle database. The system is being completely rewritten to take advantage of the benefits offered by CSLA while strictly maintaining the functionality and usability of the existing system. AMS maintains a record of every address in Canada to which mail may be delivered, right down to the apartment level, and it employs web services to allow Canada Post users access from their various offices across the country.
